• New listingSuperb Antique Georgian HM Sterling Silver Open Salt Cellar w Liner 62g Ldn 1795

This is a lovely Georgian open salt cellar with rubbed London hallmarks. Our best reading is a “U” date code for 1795 and the rubbed maker’s mark is most likely “DP” for Daniel Pontifex, 1794 to 1810 (registered Sep 1794); known for the manufacture of dishes, mustards, salts, salvers, sucriers, teapots etc. The wall has an elaborate pressed pattern of leaf, scrolls and roses. It sits on three hoof feet and has a light gilt wash to the interior. It comes with a hand blown clear glass liner with a polished pontil; most likely the original. It is in very good antique condition with no faults or damage to report, just some expected light wear with rubbed hallmarks. The photos form part of the condition and description. Measures: H4cm, 7cm max diameter; 62g silver, 124g with liner.
