Sewing Patterns and Instructional Media

Finding and using sewing patterns is one of the best ways to create clothing perfectly tailored to your style and fit. Some people take up sewing as a way to tweak ill-fitting, ready-made clothing, while others enjoy the challenge of creating something from raw materials. Instructional sewing patterns give you the foundation you need to create a fabulous new dress or cape if you prefer.

Dresses

Dresses sewn from a pattern can be as simple or fancy as you like. Options range from a simple caftan to a Renaissance costume. If you're a beginner seamstress, you may want to opt for a dress sewing pattern that is specifically called out as "easy" or "beginner."

Shirts

Similar to dresses, if you are sewing shirt patterns for the first time, you may want to try a beginner, or otherwise simple, design. Men's dress shirts, in particular, have many different pieces that will offer a challenge to those just starting out in the hobby.

Sewing Tools and Supplies

While you are shopping for instructional sewing patterns, you may want to take a look at other sewing tools and supplies. Although you may prefer to select the type of fabric you use in person, you can always find interesting supplies for your projects. Buttons and other embellishments can take your project from nice to perfect.

Vintage

Sometimes you just want a certain vintage look that cannot be replicated with a modern pattern. Turning to vintage sewing patterns is always an option. Keep in mind that vintage patterns often do not have as many instructions as modern patterns, so you need to be willing to take a chance or adapt to what you know. Also, make sure you know your measurements and understand that patterns rarely came in more than one size.
