Teva shoes were invented by Mark Thatcher, a geophysicist. The name is pronounced teh-vah and comes from the Hebrew word for nature. The Teva story began in 1982. Thatcher was hard at work, serving as a rafting guide. He quickly noticed that no shoes served the right purpose when indulging in river activities. Flip flops were easy to dry and comfortable, but they were slippery and would easily fall off. Meanwhile, sneakers were too heavy when they got wet. They’d also take days to dry, leaving people to squelch and squeak as they attempted to enjoy more activities.

It was from this observation that Thatcher was able to create Teva sandals, featuring an ankle strap to keep them secure. The invention was patented and Thatcher inked a deal with California Pacific to produce the shoes. In the first year, just 200 pairs were sold, after Thatcher marketed them as amphibious utility sandals. The early years were rough, with customers noting their ineffectiveness for normal sports and blisters caused by the straps. It took just two years for the kinks to be ironed out and for Teva shoes to take America by storm.

Today, Teva produces more than just sandals. They offer a wide range of footwear for women.

Rubber soles protect your shoes from coming into contact with the elements, and your soles, too. If you experience uneven wear on the pattern of your shoes, then rubber soles are a great trick.
