The Union Jack – the unofficial name of the flag of the United Kingdom – has a long history of being used in the fashion and music industries. In the 1970s, it was used in mod culture with a bit of a tongue in cheek approach – mimicking and somewhat mocking the American use of the Stars and Stripes in clothing as a patriotic gesture. Then punk bands took it up, with a more sarcastic edge; they used the flag while actively criticising the UK government.

In the 1990s, though, wearing the Union Jack took a slightly different turn. Geri Halliwell strutted into the hearts of millions wearing a Union Jack minidress, embodying British pop culture rather than mocking patriotism. These days, you can find Union Jacks on almost any item of clothing, including tee shirts, shorts, boxers, and handbags.

Finding a Ginger Spice costume

Dressing up as Ginger Spice in one of her most iconic outfits is easy. All you need is a minidress featuring the British flag, red boots, and a strawberry blonde wig. Then all you need is a serving of attitude, and maybe a microphone for authenticity.

Plus size Union Jack clothing

You can also find a wide variety of plus sized clothing featuring the Union Jack. Given its association with punk music, a lot of this clothing will feature punk styling and bands like the Rolling Stones, the Sex Pistols, and Queen. But you'll also find more generic choices featuring icons of British culture, like teapots and the ever-popular wartime poster: Keep Calm and Carry On.

Stars and Stripes clothing

Given that so many Americans are enthusiastic patriots, it's no surprise that the US flag features on all sorts of clothing, from band tee shirts to formal wear. You can also find Uncle Sam styled hats featuring the Stars and Stripes.
