Vintage Chess Sets and Pieces
One of the oldest board games known to man, chess is much more than a game; for some, it is a sport. Whether you play for competition or simply play for fun with your friends and family, having a chess set is an important piece of game night. Having a vintage set chess or pieces not only makes your set a conversation piece, it also makes it a highly valued collectable you can cherish for years to come.Vintage Boards
Unlike modern electronic chess boards, a vintage board requires you to move all of the pieces on your own. Vintage board construction materials may vary; you may prefer a crystal or glass board while others may prefer a wooden or even a metal board. You may also want to consider a complete vintage chess table, complete with stand. You can use this type of table as a side table when you’re not playing and it becomes a usable, fun chess board when you do want to play.Collectors’ Pieces
There are many types of collectors’ pieces and pawns that are not part of a complete set. Perhaps they were separated from the board at one time or they were simply manufactured separately. Look for motifs and characters you’d love to own as chess pieces such as Victorian moulds, Greeks and Romans, extra large pieces or characters such as Harry Potter.Complete Sets
You may also want complete vintage and antique chess sets, complete with board and pieces. Complete sets are often made of wood, with their own storage box to store the board and pieces in when it is not in use. A bamboo or metal construction is also a possibility for older and vintage chess sets.Vintage Accessories
In addition to having vintage playing pieces and boards, you may also want to consider vintage chess accessories as well. Look for older, manual chess timers (especially for a competitive game), or chess bags to carry sets in when you’re travelling. If you do travel often and like to play, a roll-up chess board is a great idea, as it folds and tucks neatly into your luggage.
