Wooden Patio & Garden Tables

Wooden Outdoor Tables

Choosing a wooden outdoor table is the perfect way to start off building a welcoming outdoor space. Hardwood and softwood tables are durable, attractive and convenient.

Outdoor Tables

When you have so much great weather, it would be a shame not to take full advantage of it. An outdoor table is the perfect centrepiece for summer get-togethers and a great way to eat al fresco. Putting a table on your patio or deck invites people to enjoy the space, especially if you add some outdoor chairs and sunshades.

Why Wood?

As a natural material, wood blends easily into outdoor settings. Compared to metal, which is another common choice for outdoor furniture, wood furniture isn’t prone to rust and will also not become uncomfortably hot when it is sitting in the summer sun. It can also be a lot lighter than wrought iron or steel furniture, making it easier to move around and store away in the winter. Wooden furniture can also vary greatly in appearance depending on the type of wood used and the type of paint or stain applied. Teak outdoor tables have a natural golden colour and the tight-grained hardwood is extremely durable. Cedar is much lighter both in colour and in weight and also holds paint very easily. Depending on how it is sourced, wood can also be a very sustainable material.

Outdoor Table Designs

Wooden outdoor tables can come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, from little folding tables that can fit on a balcony to big rectangular styles that can seat eight or even more people around them. Rustic styles are quite common in outdoor settings, but many designers have also created modern outdoor furniture that seamlessly blends wooden and metal components for extra durability. Wooden outdoor tables are often available as part of a garden set with chairs or benches, giving you everything you need to furnish your patio right out of the box.

Wooden Outdoor Table Care

Wooden outdoor furniture is exposed to the elements and can be damaged by damp conditions. Hardwood tables are actually pretty tough and contain plenty of natural oils that help to resist water damage. Washing them once a year with soapy water is usually enough, and ensuring that there is no standing water around the table’s feet helps to prevent rot. Softwood is more delicate and requires more care. Sanding with finer grades of sandpaper and then applying protective oils, stains or varnishes will help to protect the wood and also gives it attractive new colours.
