Relisting items

If an item you list on eBay doesn't sell, we can automatically relist it for you to get it back in front of buyers.

Your options for automatic relisting depend on the listing format and whether you're using the quick listing tool - opens in new window or tab or the business tool - opens in new window or tab.

You can also relist your item if the buyer didn't pay, you had to cancel the order, or you had to end the listing early, but in these situations you have to do so manually.

When an item is relisted, either automatically or manually, it can take a few hours before it appears on the site.

Insertion fees may apply to relisted items, or they may be counted as a free listing. A final value fee applies when your item sells. For full details of eBay fees, see Selling fees without an eBay Store or eBay Stores selling fees.

Automatic relisting

Auction-style listings

  • If you're using the quick listing tool:
    • Auctions with a duration of 5 days or more will be automatically relisted up to 8 times.
    • Auctions with a 1- or 3-day duration will be automatically relisted as a 7-day auction if your item doesn't sell. We'll send you an email each time we relist it.
    • Automatic relisting is selected by default. While you can't opt out of automatic relisting, you can still cancel the listing.
    • Automatic relists do not count towards your free listings balance.
  • When you refund a buyer after accepting their request to cancel a transaction, or return an item as they changed their mind, we'll automatically relist your item for you.
    • If you don't want your item to be relisted, simply clear the Relist item or Relist item after cancellation box when issuing the refund.
  • If you're using the business tool to create an auction with a duration of 5 days or more, you can choose to automatically relist the item by selecting the Automatically relist this item up to 8 times if it doesn't sell box.
  • Automatic relisting is available in most categories, but there are some exclusions (see below).
  • An insertion fee applies (or it counts as a free listing):
    • For the original auction-style listing
    • Each time the item is relisted, if you have an eBay Store or are selling on eBay as a business.

If your item doesn't sell after 8 relists, it will appear in your unsold items - opens in new window or tab.

Categories excluded from automatic relisting

Items in some categories can't be relisted automatically, including:

  • Business > Businesses for Sale
  • Home & Garden > Real Estate
  • Tickets, Travel > Flights
  • Tickets, Travel > Tickets
  • Tickets, Travel > Travel
  • Tickets, Travel > Vouchers, Gift Certificates

See our category pricing list (PDF) - opens in new window or tab for full details.

Fixed price listings

  • Fixed price listings are set to Good 'Til Cancelled duration by default – they renew automatically once per month. This means your item will be listed on eBay until it sells, you end the listing, or the listing violates an eBay policy.
  • An insertion fee applies (or it counts as a free listing):
    • For the original listing
    • For each monthly renewal, if you have an eBay Store or you listed the item using the business tool.

Manual relisting

If you need to relist an auction or fixed price listing because you ended it early, cancelled an order, or the buyer didn't pay, you'll also have to do this manually.

We charge an insertion fee (or count it as a free listing) for both the original listing and the manual relisting. However, if your relisted item sells, you may qualify for an insertion fee credit.

Here's how to manually relist an item:

Keep in mind that fees for any listing upgrades you've chosen will apply when an item is relisted manually.

How to remove automatic relisting from auction-style listings

Quick listing tool

If you used the quick listing tool to list your item, you'll need to end your listing if you don't want to relist it.

If you want to control whether your item will be relisted automatically or not, use the business tool when creating new listings.

Business tool

  1. Find your item in Active listings - opens in new window or tab.
  2. Select the drop-down arrow beside your item and then Revise.
  3. Clear the box beside Automatically relist this item up to 8 times if it doesn't sell.
  4. Save your changes.

Seller Hub

  1. Find the Active - opens in new window or tab listing.
  2. Tick the box beside the listing.
  3. From Actions, select Remove Automation rules.
  4. Select No rule.

Auction-style listings can be automatically relisted up to 8 times. Fixed price listings are "Good 'Til Cancelled".
