So I had to change the water pump on the wife's Range Rover P38 4.6 V8 with 120K miles on the clock. Pretty sure it had never been changed before and having read some of the horror stories on the forums regarding what a pain removing the viscous fan could be decided to look for a locking tool. Had a look on ebay and found the Neilsen spanner and holding tool listed for not a lot more than the spanner on its own. Although it is cut out of sheet steel is has a solid feel to it and is well made. Range Rover P38 water pump pulley is held on with 3 bolt and is slightly dished. The design of the Pulley holding tool does not allow it to fit cleanly onto the pulley because of this. The arm is a little short and the rivet that holds the arm to them main part of the tool or the arm itself gets in the way. All that said with a little bit of trial and error I managed to get the tool in a position where it locked the pulley. Once locked the fan came off without fuss. The spanner is a good fit and using the combination of the two tools it literally took seconds to crack the fan free which after 21 years and 120k miles was the easiest part of the job. Shame I cannot say the same for the bolt that actually hold the water pump on... If I was a professional mechanic changing Range Rover water pumps on a regular basis then I don't think this tool would be up to the job. If pulleys were flat and had four bolts then it is fine but with the dished pulley it is too fiddly for the professional. BUT If you are a keen armature who wants to avoid skinned and bused knuckles and more importantly time and effort when you change a water pump then this tool will tick all the boxes and at around £20 even if you only use it once I think is worth the investment.Read full review

Needed this to remove a fan off a V8 Range Rover it worked as it should good fit and held the pulley without damaging the vehicle. Not sure how many times this will hold but worked for me.
