I have loved the original Alita novels since I borrowed them from a friend in college. I decided recently that I wanted to own them for myself, so I looked for them on ebay. The original printings of the graphic novels were larger, with the American/English reading style of left-to-right. The new graphic novels read from right-to-left, and are much smaller, resulting in some of the wording being a tad hard to read. The other problem I encountered is more frustrating. While the original printings of the Battle Angel Alita novels were each a complete story (aka you didn't need to buy the next one, it was complete in and of itself), the new printings cut every book off before the last chapter. This leaves the reader at a cliffhanger where they are almost forced to buy the next one of they want to know what happens. I find this a very shady and sleezy thing for the new publisher to do. So overall, I love the story of Alita (a kick-ass female cyborg) but if you buy the novels, either get the original printings or be prepared to buy them all! :) Volume 3 Killing Angel follows the heroine as she becomes involved with a deadly sport called Motorball.Read full review
I had already read it from scanlations, but such a great work HAS to be in my library, in a very special place. I have all sorts of books: philosophy, history and classical literatures. As to graphic novels, I have Frank Miller, Neil Gaiman and, now, Yukito Kishiro.
