This DVD is excellent, it answers my regret that I never got to see GG live in the 70’s. I got to see virtually all the Prog and rock bands, from Genesis to Crimson to Return to Forever to PFM to Zeppelin and beyond. The only other major band was Yes who didn’t turn up but I did get to see them in 2004 with the ’Classic Lineup’ To me GG was the best band I never saw, but this DVD answers that with the Sight & Sound concert, that I cannot recall seeing in Jan 1978. The quality is pretty good for 41 years ago, far better than the OGWT and German clips. By then many fans would say GG were past their best but I did enjoy The Missing Piece and 6 tracks from this album are among the set list. By then most of the band had shorter hair, but Kerry’s keyboard tally makes up for it. Great to see the flexibility of the band, at one time all five are playing guitar! The BBC concert is worth the price of the DVD alone but you get the other bits, and even a CD soundtrack of the live concert performances too. The commentary to the Sight & Sound concert is very entertaining and also the videos of the ‘Interview’ tracks, an album I am coming round to appreciating more, you even get reggae which sounds bizarre but given the quirky GG influence. The title track and I Lost My Head are excellent. The ‘Giant for a Day’ tracks being less good, but the band were pressured into commercialism at this time although not affecting ‘The Missing Piece’ so much as later albums. I was in a band in the early seventies from Sevenoaks and thank Brian our manager for introducing GG to me as he went to the same school as some of the members, presumably Portsmouth.Read full review
