Upon receiving the radio, I powered it up and it came to life immediately. As someone skilled on this radio, I had no problem when I updated the firmware to the current version and then programmed the radio to operate on the extensive (60 repeater) PRN system which operates in NC and SC. A first timer will need someone skilled to help with the software and some are put off by having to buy programming software. Less rugged, imported radios may have free software but most people do not operate on a system as advanced as the PRN ham network (ncprn.net). I get good reports on my transmit audio and the audio on the signals I receive from others. This was a good transaction.

Great radios , must be programed and tuned up buy person working on motorolas. receive and transmit is heads above the chinese radios. once setup should not need anything except firmware updates to improve operation. for mototrbo this is a good choice .

I bought this radio to use on the amateur radio DMR system as well as analog. MotoTRBO XPR radios are the professional series digital/analog radios and I've got five of them including portables VHF and UHF. And I even have a XPR8300 repeater. If you want the best in DMR then you want a MotoTRBO.
