This is an astonishing piece of optical design. With low dispersion glasses and aspheric components it renders extreme wide angle with virtually no distortion. That said, Simga have recently released a wider aperture version (f/3.5) and an even wider angle version (8-16mm) and so the price of this lens, both retail and second hand, may come down. On the downside it is physically big and rather heavy. Mine, from Ebay, came without a lens hood and the seller attempted to charge twice for postage. The front optic is recessed and so the barrel containing it acts to an extent like a lens hood. Let your fingers creep round the edge and the extreme field of view will cause you to see them! Indeed if you do the calculations the field of view is greater than 90 degrees horizontally and so a picture taken from the corner of a room will include both walls leading out from the corner. The photo of the lens I am looking at supplied by Ebay is for the Sigma EX 10-20mm f/4.0-5.6 HSM DC Lens but it is not the version for the Pentax. The Pentax version looks slightly different and actually does not have the hypersonic motor (HSM) even though later Pentax bodies will take advantage of lenses with hypersonic motors built-in. The Pentax model does not have a manual/auto focus switch built-in either. It's main competitor is the Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 Di-II LD Aspherical (IF). There is a comparison here: http://virtualentity.blogspot.co.uk/2008/11/tamron-10-24-35-45-vs-compared-to-sigma.html Nearly a decade ago my main reservation for moving from film to digital was the lack of affordable wide angle lenses. This Sigma 10-20mm is equivalent to 15-30mm using 35mm film and fills that gap nicely. You can see some of the first photos I took with this lens on the way back from the post office collection depot here https://picasaweb.google.com/109642638730429484813/Sigma1020mm?authuser=0&feat=directlinkRead full review
Good at f5.6 & f8 else soft edges if large print required (16"*12"). Good contrast, flare ok but multiple spots for a bright light. Focus quick. A bit too heavy. Overall good, limited by the generic issues of such a wide lens.

I wanted a reliable, good quality super wideangle zoom. Sigma 10-20mm F/4,0-5,6 was the best compromise according to my readings in internet. I know that there are better lensens in this focal lens area, but may be not in this price range. I like this lens, and have no idea to change it to some other type.
A great lens that is around for some years now. One of the best lens for landscape photographers and not only. The reviews around say that these lens are soft around the edges they are if you work from f16 to f22. If you work between f8 and f11 your pictures will be as sharp as it gets. Highly recommended.
Excellent lens, in perfect condition. Great photos, much better than expected.
