    Kenwood KES-5 Speaker

    Built to mil-spec, this speaker is not only tough, but it sounds great too! I am somewhat hearing impaired so needed a speaker that has good volume potential and delivers the high frequency voice ranges well. I can hear it clear as a bell!

    Great speaker and an even better bang for you buck!

    This speaker is built like a tank! It is heavy and is of high quality. The sound it puts out is very loud and clear. Voices are easy to hear and it does not make noise sound harsh. I am actually using it as a base speaker with my Icom IC-7300 transceiver. It was so much cheaper than Icom's own speaker offerings and sounds just as good. Don't let the fact that it was designed as a mobile speaker dissuade you. It sounds that good!

    Kenwood KES-5 External Speaker

    One of the best external speakers I have found for mobile use with my ham radios, the KES-3 is also very good in tight places. This model is heavy and needs the original mounting bracket for support. The clean sound is what made me want this model after hearing it on a friend's mobile.

    Make sure you buy a speaker with a stand

    Sound quality is great, but it didn’t come with a stand, or any of the mounting hardware. This thing is heavy has all round edges, and the center of balance makes it impossible to even stand it up against anything cause it just falls. I need to spend some time in my wood shop building a custom stand for this thing. The sound quality is AMAZING, AND I REALLY LIKE THE SPEAKER. So much that I’m willing to build a stand for it. Without an amplifier built in, you would swear there was one it’s so loud, and very clear.

    Good to go new or used.

    These are great heavy duty speakers and I recommend them for anyone who is into radio. I use with scanners, CB's, Ham radio, and shortwave. Purchased new can be expensive. I find them used for cheap but with a drawl back. When purchased used, for reasons I do not know, they never have the mount included and the wires are cut short. Replacing the wire took a little solder and some stereo wire. Other that that they are great.
