Robert Johnson was brought back from obscurity by Eric Clapton. Clapton was taken by Johnson's treatment of the blues, and he credits many of his licks to Johnson. Most of Johnson's tunes will not be instantly recognized by Clapton fans - Sweet Home Chicago is among the more recognizable. The recordings are just old. The have a Rudy Valle quality to them and it seems like Johnson uses many of the same muscial devices - walk downs and the like - through out the selections. Johnson was no Eric - but without him Eric wouldn't had had songs like Cross Roads. Absent this inspiration Eric might have just turned into the greatest polka player ever - but Robert burned the blues into Eric's soul. Eric nurtured that ember to a blaze and set fire to the rest of us. This colection is an essential for any true blue Clapton fan.Read full review
