About this product

Product Information

Considered the series that founded the 3D fighting style of video games, Sega's Virtua Fighter returns to home consoles with this release. The PS2 version of Virtua Fighter 4 is designed to offer the same rich presentation and, more importantly, the same solid gameplay of the instantly successful coin-op version of the title. The PS2's Virtua Fighter 4 features the same cast of characters and assortment of battle locations available to arcade gamers. Detailed fighters, vivid visual effects, and deformable arenas have been translated with care to Sony's 128-bit generation console.

Two new characters join 11 veterans of the series for a selection of 13 fighters, each with a different style based on actual martial arts techniques. New counters and defensive moves let characters adjust their stances in the middle of a bout. Other new features are available only to home gamers, including accessories to customize a favorite character and the opportunity to prove one's skill in ranking tournaments. Players can also "train" an AI-controlled fighter, who can be built up through sparring then let loose in a real contest. Developed by series creator Yu Suzuki and AM2, this fourth Virtua Fighter game is designed to live up to its impressive heritage, at home as well as in the arcade.

    Virtua Fighter (4)

Despite both games being over 10 years old, they still hold up today. I've always like VF because you have to KNOW how to play it, unlike other fighters which one can BUTTON MASH to victory. VF is also the most realistic fighter out there. LOOK CAREFULLY and you'll see the fighting styles stay true to their real life counterparts. For shame VF is a niche instead of mainstream...

  • Virtua Fighter 4 is a solid fighting game

I decided to buy Virtua Fighter 4 because I have played it in the past with friends and have always wanted it. Now that prices have come down over the years and with the PS3 launch you can find lots of great games on ebay for pretty cheap which is great. VF4 has great graphics for a PS2 game. However the thing I dont like are the controls. In order to pull off some of the cooler moves you need to hit a series of 5 or more buttons perfectly which is pretty difficult to do so you are left with using the same boring punch and kick all match. If they could find some way of making it a little easier to use this game would be close to perfect. Overall I would definitely recommend getting this game if you are into the fighting games like Tekken. Keep an eye out for Virtua Fighter 5 on ...

  • Virtua Fighter 4

Virtua Fighter has always impressed me for its realism - both in the art as well as the moves. Of the ones I've tried (Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur) it is the most true of any fighting game to actual fighting styles with no supernatural abilities or weapons - and no unnecessary blood and guts either. I read that actual martial artists were filmed performing their skills and the character moves based on these mappings. For a beginner though, it can be challenging to learn to execute the moves well enough to become a formidable player. You do kinda have to practice with each character and study their moves to get good instead of being able to stumble upon some cool moves by accident (via "button mashing"). For that kind of ease I recommend the Tekken series ...

  • Virtua Fighter 4 (Playstation 2)

I just bought this game from a great seller. After thinking and debating that I needed a new fighting game for my ps2... I thought I would give Virtua Fighter 4 a try. What can I say...I had to judge a 'book' by it's 'cover'. The characters looked really awesome and so did the graphics. Finally after having this game in my hand and I started to play it... I was impressed by the navigation and... well... that's about it. The character's faces should of gone through some CGI- surgery and really... why do you need two PUNCH buttons (that do the same thing)? I don't get it... the moves are slow, nothing unique, I thought to myself... thank goodness I only spent around 7.00 on this game. I plan on...selling it or giving it away to someone I know... or I might keep it. But really, there was ...

  • Not good

I got this for my handicapped son for his birthday but it wouldn't play on his ps2. I think it was because of the blue back. Not sure why those don't play sometimes.
