Wings of Fire Review
Ever since I discovered Charles Todd at a library book sale I can not get enough of this writer. Having steered clear of this type of "historic" mystery I find myself almost welcomed into the 19teens. So much so that by the end of every Todd book I feel at a loss missing both Inspector Rutledge, the era and place in which he lives. After my library find, Watchers in Time, I was delighted to discover many other books with Inspector Rutledge. So, I started at the beginning of the series where readers meet the Inspector. He has returned to work after suffering a terrible injury in the first world war. Wings of Fire happens to be the next book I am reading in the series and does not fail in meeting expectations. After being introduced and becoming familiar with characters and suspects we become their neighbor and part of their community. Mystery is set in the minds of characters. Rutledge,a very likeable a sympathetic hero, deciphers the psychological motives behind the behaviour of each person he meets. Occasionally, dissuaded by his self-doubt, his confidence ovecomes this and he discovers the solution by novel's end. All this much to the dislike of Rutledge's surperior, Bowles. When this book is complete I am so looking forward to reading the next. Perhaps you will become as enchanted with the books by Charles Todd.
