  • OK book, could've been hundreds of pages shorter.

I bought the book because it was the chosen book for my monthly club meeting. I liked the author's writing style e.g., word choice and structure, but there was so much extra fluff in the book that it was really a waste of time. The perfect example is when the main character first goes to his place of business, the university. The author spent thousands of words describing the buildings and setting, an exercise completely irrelevant to the story. Just say, "it's a university" and move on with it, we get the point. The characters were interesting and the themes were compelling but it's just not a great book. The consensus opinion of the 15 people at the club meeting was...don't bother.

  • Gripping novel

    Page turner, very interesting
