As an alcohol counselor, this book gives me great insight into the development of the 12 step program for alcohol recovery. Since it has many of the precise references for the statements that are made, it appeals to me because it is not someone's opinion, but rather, a recounting of the history and development of AA. It also documents the many influences of the program, including medical, psychological, spiritual and religious. It is thought-provoking and fascinating from an academic and practical viewpoint. The only thing I do not like is the size of the print, which is somewhat small. Otherwise, a complete and thorough look into this program that has changed many lives.
