This DVD came highly recommended by someone I had never heard of before - someone off e-bay. They were reviewing another BBC release and mentioned this one. So I bought it, a feat I find particulary daring based on such anomina, but hey, life is boring so why not, right? I popped it in when it arrived today, mostly out of boredom and suddenly I was hooked. It's a great story with some really likable characters that are easy to relate to. They do grea things with still pictures - in and of itself, a great accomplishment for a movie. But enough about technicalities. The story follows the sale and conversion of a building and it's large collection of photographs, but wrapped up in there are the sub plots of the collections possible seperation, loss or destruction, and the one man who realizes that the archive holds a dark family secret for an unsuspecting innocent... It was, all in all, well worth the money and I'm sure to pass it around to my friends. A great movie for anyone who cares about art, history or just making a connection.Read full review
This is one of our favorite movies of all time. We watch and re-watch it regularly picking up on missed details each time. If you're watching it for the first time, pay close attention. The story is intriguing. The British actors are superb. Each character is distinct and so well portrayed that you feel you know them personally. And, each personality advances the story line. No car chases; no sex; no blood and gore; just a fascinating story as it unfolds. Anyone who is a photographer will relish this movie.

While I found the plot implausible, I enjoyed the journey involving a fictional huge photograph collection. It was a great opportunity to see many wonderful old photographs, as well as others which were created for the film. The actors are great, and it's something quite different from just about anything I've seen.

Saw this show on Netflix disks and decided I needed my own copy so I could re-watch it. A slow and deep show about a black and white photo museum in England that is about to be evicted from its facility by an American businessman. The curators have an amazing ability to put disparate photos together to tell some amazing stories about people and their lives. They use this ability to try to convince the businessman that the million plus photos are worth saving. I found this 3 part show deeply moving and have watched it twice more since I got it.
