I started using this camera on May 21, battery lasted about 2 weeks with 50 to 100 motion detections per day. No it lasts just about a week with the same amount of detections. Since the beginning I set the camera to save battery, reduced motion sensor sensitivity and turn off the spotlight feature. Maybe is a faulty battery, but I wouldn't know, could be the detection rate is too high. Other than that, image is clear, even at low quality settings. Spotlight is very bright and audio quality is great. The mobile app works great and gives you total control of the camera, even when you're not home. Set up is extremely easy. I would keep working on the sensitivity settings and see if that helps with battery management.

Nearly useless without a paid subscription. Therefore, it doesn't coexist well with my older generation Arlo cams that I have been using for a few years now. I would not have purchased this camera had I taken the time to research it more. It does, however, serve as a 'live view' camera but it won't record and most of the features do not work without the plan.

A decent security camera for the basics, it has good response time for motion detection and notifications as well as an app that is easy to navigate. I have purchased a number of these cameras and fitted them with the optional solar panel for charging, which has worked well. While I am happy with this camera overall, it should be noted that if you are looking for a camera that has resolution that holds up under zoom, like to read a license plate, this is not the right choice. The price point and features of solar charging while being wireless and not needing a hub or cloud contract to operate are the details that drew me to this unit. Given the aforementioned caveats, I would recommend this security camera.

For those having issues with batteries not lasting, I purchased a 3rd party low voltage cable that plugs into camera, other end, USB into outlet, adapter included if you don’t have a outlet with USB ports. Just need to drill a hole for wire, can install in 10 minutes. This gives you constant power, battery is always at 100% so you can constantly record. Paid $17 for two cables. I called ARLO first and they approved use of cable. Don’t remember name of product. Just google external power cable for Arlo essential. Have had absolutely no issues with the cables. Camera is very nice, highly recommended too.

The Arlo Essential is a very intuitive security camera with everything you need to get started immediately. The only let down is that the battery life drains much faster than advertised if you have it placed somewhere people constantly walk by.
