I was interested in this biography as I knew little about Susan B Anthony. As one who is not American I found this history fascinating. In an age when education was considered wasted on women, Anthony became a teacher earning only a quarter of the amount paid to her male predecessor. She gave up teaching to devote her time and effort to reform. She became a figure in the abolitionist movement, fought for women's rights and was brought to trial for voting (unlawfully for a woman) in the 1872 presidential election. Although she died a decade and a half before women finally won the right to vote, Susan B Anthony knew that it would be achieved. This is an informative and well-presented biography which highlights the battles fought to achieve reform.
