    Good but not great

    I had just read Chatham's Anglers Coast and loved it. When I had the opportunity to get his Silent Seasons I jumped at it. I find the stories well worth reading: just not as strong as the Anglers Coast. I suspect that Chatham just put a bit extra into getting you to feel what it was like fishing the northern California coast rivers for some of the very best in salmon, steelhead, and strippers. You could just feel the hurt in his writing at losing all that fishing to developers who just could not appreciate what they were destroying.
