Every American should see this documentary. It is informative and engaging. It does a good job of honoring those who fought for freedom. It also does not avoid the history that the U.S. Government essentially stole the property from the Lee family even when they made an effort to pay the taxes during the Civil War. It also takes you to the part of the cemetery when members of the U.S. Colored Troops are buried and points out that these men knew in a greater way what fighting for freedom really means.

Every American should watch this DVD. It presents an excellent history lesson on Arlington, but also teaches lessons beyond the history. Through giving the viewer an intimate look at those who "work at Arlington" it teaches about pride, excellence, honor, and commitment. Thank you, PBS for producing such a masterpiece! I have shown this DVD to my students because it says in one hour more than I ever can about remembering those who have sacrificed their lives for our country so we can enjoy our freedoms.
I, like many others I imagine, knew very little about Arlington other than some famous people are buried there, i.e., JFK. This film gives a complete snapshot of Arlington: its history up to the present day, some famous people buried there, examples of how funerals are conducted, military training and procedures. I'm quite impressed and awed at what it takes to maintain the beauty and dignity of this cemetery. It has stiffened my resolve to visit and see it for myself.
Wonderful video that shows what happens behind the scenes at Arlington National Cemetery. It focuses on the guards for the Tomb of the Unknowns, but also gives the history of the cemetery, and shows how military honors are given. I had more respect for the guards, and this video would be ideal for anyone who has a loved one buried in this "field of honor."
Nice program. Mixes together the history of the site, several funeral preparations and what the military members endure to be honor guard.
