Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is something you don't see every day on consoles, and its uniqueness does offer a breath of fresh air amidst the myriad twitch and sci-fi shooters out there. This is one of the more realistic war games you'll find on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, with a sense of tension built out of life or death situations rather than over-the-top action. I had fun with Dragon Rising, despite the fact that it consistently showed a lack of polish through weak artificial intelligence, middle of the road presentation, and its fair share of bugs. 5.0 Presentation Don't come looking for bells and whistles, or even any cutscenes introducing a level. 7.0 Graphics A wide open world that occasionally looks underwhelming. 6.0 Sound Rarely will the gunfire or explosions pack the punch you'd expect. The voice acting could be a lot better. 8.0 Gameplay Unique, realistic, and fun. The hardcore will have a ball. Just be prepared for some technical shortcomings. 8.0 Lasting Appeal The open nature of the quests and co-op play offer great replayability. The multiplayer needs to be cleaned up to really take off. I like the realism of the game, trying to snipe people from a hundreds and hundreds of yards is awesome as you have to account for bullet drop which makes it challenging. What I find hard about it is that it doesn't save very often and it could have you walking several miles to get back to the point that you need to conquer. Should one lucky bullet happen to catch you in the face then its back to walking that 2 miles again. Which again is good/bad as its very real but very annoying, but it makes you try VERY hard not to get killed. All in all decent game...I haven't tried online play yet so I don't know what its even like.
This game may not have all the movie-length in game cut scenes or intricately detailed plot lines of other shooters, but it sure has been a good buy to me. If I had paid full price I probably would have been disappointed but for the 20 bucks I spent, I would have been hard pressed to find a better game. Just a good, quality game without all the extras. Reminds me of Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway.
I bought this title inparticular because its still a fairly new one compared to some of the other games out there. I thought it was a military combat game like "call of duty" ....boyyy was i wrong ! Dont get mrong here its got the good graphics and all . Its just not a put the game in and jump into action game is all its really quite difficult to make any progress in it in my opinion. It is more along the line of "socom :navy seals"(in which i wouldve been better of buying instead) I have played the game twice since getting it a month ago. I wouldnt recommend buying if you are easily frustated . UNLESS you are the type of person that enjoys playing online.
I decided to buy this game because it's been said that it is the hardest, most realistic fps game on the consoles. So far, this is true. There's a few glitches here and there, especially with the AI, but that's about the games only real flaw. The graphics are mediocre as well.. but you can't have everything. Overall, a great title for someone who's tired of mainstream CoD and Halo.
