This TP-Link Deco mesh system replaced the long standing, if not retired AirPort Extreme and the upgrade is significant! We were having issues with our internet connected TV’s, having to reboot daily. We needed to connect them only once within our new WiFi 6 network. We found our Deco listed among the best five routers for 2022. It performs beautifully and the App is so user friendly, it’s a pleasure to use to set up and monitor your network. There’s security software included an you can opt $4.95 mo for real-time protection. You are notified every time someone joins your network and you can block users with the touch of a button. The only router that outperforms this system costs hundreds more, which makes this close second performer an outstanding value. These are just bullet point pros, I could go on! The one con i found barely qualifies and isn’t worth mentioning. This is by far, the best bang for your buck for large homes and an excellent replacement for the out dated AE.Read full review

For most homes this router will probably work very well. Unlike other routers I've used this one has no general port forwarding rules and the common ports don't seem to be automatically available. Setting up port forwarding is inconsistent. There is one device I cannot connect - the inverter for my solar system. This connection is essential for monitoring the performance of the system. Without this connection I'd have no way of knowing about component failures or poor performance of an individual panel. In order for a port to be forwarded for a device the device has to connect on some level. My SolarEdge inverter apparently only connects on particular ports so I can't even configure it on this router.

After finishing our basement, I knew we would need to upgrade our home wifi. The Deco supports Wifi 6 and covers up to 5500 sqft, more than adequate for our home. It was easy to set up and it resolved the drop-outs I had experienced from the previous router. Now, I get excellent coverage in the basement and upstairs and the devices are on one network. The Deco devices have their own backhaul network, which is important since that traffic doesn't traverse the standard network on which your devices connect. My only apprehension is that I was concerned that I might need three units, but the two provided have been enough and I am happy.
