The original uncut movie was so powerful. The VHS tape has cut some of the scenes out. I especially liked the communication system they set up in prison that was not in the video. Also, the young Navy sailor who worked so hard at memorizing names and SSN's was cut from the VHS. A lot of the torture was also cut from the VHS. "War is hell" as Patton said. We need to understand the bare ugly truth of it. The media betrayed the nation during Viet Nam and is trying to do the same with the present war in Iraq. Watching actual war footage from WW-II is a real lesson in how bad real war really is. Freedom is not free. We had many military and some civilians pay for our present freedom in their own blood. We need to develop an understanding of it and appreciate what history teaches. It is still a great movie and one which everyone should see!Read full review
This is, per many of the POWs who were imprisoned in the Hanoi Hilton, probably the most accurate depiction of the place on film. The fact that it accurately depicts the brutality of the North Vietnamese undoubtedly is the main reason that the movie was quashed by the liberal entertainment industry just a week after it debuted and was a blockbuster at the ticket office. Not a politically-correct justification for the Communists as they would have liked it to have been. This needs to be distributed to as wide an audience as possible.
Interesting movie to see what John McCain and other had to suffer through as a POW. By all accounts it is accurate and should be required viewing by all Americans in order that they can be aware of what other countries do to POW's. It may be a critical eye opener for the likes of Jane Fonda fans.
Strong performances. Bought the movie because I'm a long-time David Soul fan. Was not disappointed.
I never got to see the movie it didn play on three different VCR players, so I had no choice but to trash it.
