Every Good Cook Should Own This Book!
When all my cookbooks flooded in Katrina, I set about the task of replacing the ones I really depended on. The Cake Mix Doctor was surely on my replacement list. The book contains a wealth of dessert recipes, all made from a cake mix. The index also lists cake recipes by type of mix, so when you're in a hurry, you can find a dessert to bake based on the mix that you have in the pantry. The beginning of the book features small pictures of the more than 150 finished cakes, and the page number is included underneath the picture so you can quickly find the recipe. The next section features helpful information about different types of mixes, ingredients, equipment and techniques. Another helpful feature of this book is the "hints" that are placed throughout the chapters. Topics such as "Bake ... High Praise!
The recipes are over and above any ordinary box cake recipes. Ms. Byrn turns each one into a masterpiece with very little effort! I have made so many of the desserts and have given them out and people tell me I shouldn't have gone through the trouble of making cake from scratch. This is high praise and I have to agree...with a little extra effort folks will think you are the best baker. What I like is that you can tweak the recipes to your taste and they still come out delicious! Not just your mama's boxed cake mix. I have made quite a few from the book and some of my favorites are the Cannoli Cake, Toffee Crunch Cheesecake, Honey Bun Cake, Apricot Nectar Cake, Milk Chocolate Pound Cake and the Deeply Chocolate Almond Cake with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting.The recipes are over and above any ordinary box cake recipes. Amazing book, with TONS of great recipes!!!
This is an amazing book, there are SO many wonderful recipes in it I can not wait to make them. The price was fabulous and the fact that they all begin with a box mix is just beyond belief to me! I have made three recipes already and will be making another for my Granddaughter's birthday in a few week's. When I served the Chocolate Kahlua cake at my party last week that I made I was asked for the recipe by 3 of the people at the part and they were shocked that the base of it was a box mix. I told them about this book and I have a feeling you will be selling a few more copies!!!! This is an amazing book, there are SO many wonderful recipes in it I can not wait to make them.
