This black & white classic features the work of Lon Chaney, Jr. who gives a much underrated performance as the tortured victim of a werewolf curse. Claude Reins ("Cassablanca", "The Invisable Man") also gives a great portrayal of his concerned but skeptical father. With its stellar cast, moody atmosphere and topics like the supernatural, religion, mental illness, and lycnathropy, the Wolf Man is the perfect horror film. Chaney does tragedy well, and the ultimate screen-queen of the forties, Evelyn Ankers is excellent also. Filled with Gypsys and forest scenes (under the light of the full moon, of course), the story is just right for All-Hallows Eve. Watch for a special cameo by Bela Lugosi! Besides being a great movie, it brings back wonderful childhood memories of staying up late with family on Friday nights and being scared silly! Spooky, but a family film by today's standards. This is a MUST-SEE for movie-buffs.Read full review
WOW! Talk about a great plot! This movie has it all. Lon Chaney Jr. does a great job of convincing us that what is happening to him is all a night mare that he can't explain! Great acting by Claude Rains as Larry Talbot's (The Wolfman) father. Great transformation scene as Larry Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.) becomes the Wolfman. Great supporting cast, especially the Gypsy woman as she magically seems to arrive on the scene to assist Larry Talbot more then once! Bela Lugosi has a small but important part as the werewolf to first bite Larry Talbot. I don't know about you but I'm going out and buying myself some silver bullets!
My son loves black and white classic monster movies and this thrilled him.

I'm giving The Wolf Man with Lon Chaney an excellent for being a vintage movie that set the stage for hundreds of horror movies for the next several generations. It's rather tame and obvious to the modern viewer, but great fun to watch as a novel example of early horror. I liked the sets, props, fashions and the old cars in the movie
it was okay

The original horror classic characterized by foggy scenes, elaborate settings, and chilling, accompanying music. Bela Lugosi and Lon Chaney Jr. add extra appeal to this film. The predictable outcome still offers plenty of scary scenes for viewers.
