    I am an avid reader, and must stated that I have never come across a book as well written and absolutely engaging as 'Outlander' - 'Outlander' is the name utilized in the U.S. The same novel is called 'Cross Stitch' in the U.K, Australia and New Zealand, and other Commonwealth countries. Diana Gabaldon is a science PhD, with expertise in Avian ecology, and computer soft-ware design. Her books have Nothing to do with birds or computers but are the most incredibly well researched and accurate historical fiction one could hope to read. This book is the first of a series of novels about a time traveling post WWII combat nurse and her adventures in the lead up to the 1745 Jacobite rising in Scotland.
