About this product

Product Information

Are you ready for a classic beat ‘em up genre game? If so, Double Dragon Advance for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance (GBA) is exactly what you need. Released in 2003, this side-scrolling classic Gameboy game is a remake of the 1987 arcade game Double Dragon, and is based on the arcade game, its sequels, and the home versions of Double Dragon. Just as in the original arcade game, in the Gameboy version you take control of either Billy Lee or his twin brother Jimmy Lee as they fight their way through members of the Shadow Warriors gang. The goal of Double Dragon Advance is to rescue Billy’s kidnapped girlfriend, Marian. In the world of Double Dragon Advance, global nuclear war has left the world in ruins, so gangs control the cities. The Shadow Warriors are interested in getting the book of the "Sou-Setsu-Ken," so they won’t give up Marian without a fight. In this side-scrolling GBA adventure, you can play as either brother or enter a third mode where you play both brothers by freely switching between them. You can also play with a friend by using a Gameboy game link cable. There’s even a survival mode available for playing where you must beat as many enemies as possible with a single life. The brothers are martial arts masters, so be prepared for a beat-them-up, bare-knuckles adventure. They are on a mission, and there is a fight wherever they go as they battle their way through Chinatown, a cavern, a fortress, and on top of a truck with weapons like nunchakus and double kali sticks. Double Dragon Advance for the Nintendo Game Boy Advance was published by Atlus and developed by Million Inc., Paon, and S-NEO. Most of the enemies you encountered in the first two arcade games have returned for another round of battle and they brought a few new enemies to fight you, too. New enemies you need to defeat to inclllude the Twin Tigers, Hong and Huang, the bold Kikucho, and also the Five Emperors who are led by a thug named Raymond. Fighting moves you could not use against some enemies in the earlier arcade games are now part of your character's arsenal of skills, like the hair-pull on the enemy named Burnov. If you’re looking for a classic fun game for your Nintendo Game Boy Advance, Double Dragon Advance certainly fits the bill. While games from the Double Dragon series were also released for the Playstation, Atari 2600, Sega Gensis, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, PSP, and NES, the Double Dragon Advance game is only available on the GBA and GBA Online. Double Dragon Advance does incorporate elements of the other Double Dragon games, but also builds on the Atari and NES versions by including additional levels available only in Double Dragon Advance. The game received positive ratings and is fun to play. If you’re only familiar with the Atari or NES versions of Double Dragon games, this is a great time to be introduced to the GBA version. Dust off your Gameboy and plug in Double Dragon Advance. You’ll be glad you did.

    Excellent update of a classic

Double Dragon Advance is hands down the best version of Double Dragon. Good graphics, tight controls, a widely expanded array of moves compared to the original, and it's all done with a reverance and faithfulness to the original that Double Dragon Neon was sadly lacking. If you're looking for a beat 'em up for the GBA, this is a must have.

  • A Superbly Enhanced Conversion!

Anyone from the 80's that ventured into an arcade would no doubt have seen Double Dragon. It was a ground breaking game in its time and got a lot of kids and adults hooked, my friends and myself included! The original Arcade holds dear to me and normally I'd say leave it alone as I'm sure many would agree its great as it is.. slow down included! But i was pleasantly surprised when I read about this Game Boy Advance conversion and more surprised that it was rated as one of the best home conversions made. It offers redrawn visuals that are more detailed yet retain the look and feel of the original, sounds have beefed up but again does the original proud. It also includes some new moves and levels as well as a two player link up option (two copies needed). As well as this it has different ...

  • Double Dragon Advance (Game Boy Advance)

After purchasing Double Dragon Advance for Game Boy Advance, I knew right away that I'd be in for a treat. The game, just like it's original arcade predecessor, is a side-scrolling beat-em-up, where you start off duking it out with baddies left and right through seven or eight stages. Graphically, DDA isn't anything special as it almost exactly replicates the original--which came out c. 1987. But still, it animates nicely and there are more moves that you'll be able to pull than in either Final Fight of Streets of Rage. The sound department in DDA isn't exactly the best you'll hear either. I'd rate it average at best. But then again, listening to the score isn't why we play these types of games to begin with. Overall, I found DDA for the GBA to be a fun gaming experience. And even ...

  • Double Dragon!

Big double dragon fan from the 80s. I was happy to see this version had additional levels, weapons, moves and ability to drop weapons. More money than I typically spend on game boy games but a good deal considering the quality of this game.

  • Fantastic remake of a video game classic!

I'm not a big fan of most of Atlus' catalog, but they have a winner with this one! This game not only improves upon the original, but in doing so, it captures the same feelings of excitement I had when I first played this game in arcades and on my NES. The graphics are excellent. There are weapons aplenty. The music is great. The features are many. Granted, the game is short, but whether you are a longtime fan of the franchise or a newcomer, Double Dragon Advance is worth the ride.
