I've read 20 beekeeping books and consider this the second best beginner level resource. It's practical, laconic, and full of helpful pictures and diagrams. It's the only work I've found that discusses bee medicine. It's easy to use as a reference, and fun to read, too. Good appendixes. Blackiston's "commercials" for his own company are the only drawback, a very minor irritant. Every new beekeeping "dummy" should have it.
I am a professional beekeeper and a state inspector. In my opinion Beekeeping for Dummies is the best beekeeping guide on the market. The information and photos are up to date and the tips are invaluable. Obviously any new beekeeper should have a mentor. However, if someone wanted to become a beekeeper without a mentor; they could become a successful beekeeper just by following the information and guidance in this book. I purchased multiple copies of this book to give to new beekeepers joining our state beekeeping association. The second edition is now available but this first edition is still extremely valuable for new beekeepers. Bee Safe. Bee Healthy, Bee Happy C-Bees
My husband is the beekeeper and I wanted to learn so I could understand what he is talking about! Turns out that the entire family .. including the long time beekeeper has read and enjoyed this book. It's easy to understand and organized in a logical fashion. Great information and fun tips to share. I give it 5 stars for speaking to me in a way a true "dummy" (me) can understand!
It's got lots of great information for newbies at beekeeping.
