This rendition of John Grisham's novel, "A Painted House" is essentially faithful to the spirit of the printed story. It was an unexpected departure from the legal and courtroom genre Grisham readers and viewers of other film adaptions of his work will be more familiar with. In reading the novel, one enters the story with perhaps an unfortunate predisposition that Grisham is being emulatory of other notable novels. "To Kill A Mockingbird" will be one of the first to spring to mind. Maybe this is because the author seems to have attempted to draw more detailed word-pictures of the environment and society in which the family lived. The novel however, is a standalone and draws deeply upon the author's own early history, which is discussed in the DVD extras. The film presentation went its own way and did not provoke notions of emulation. International buyers need to be aware that the DVD is region coded. The cheaper DVD players which do not activate regional coding will likely play them but the more expensive players and most computers may not.Read full review

I got this on the recommendation of a friend. Not a bad movie, just not my style. I like to watch my collections over and over again. For me, once was enough for this one.

Very well done. John Grisham is a favorite author of mine and I had read the book first. Of course the movie can't cover everything in depth like the book can but they came very close. Good characters and filmed well.

I enjoyed the movie very much.I saw it advertised on eBay.It goes back to the everyday farm life pretty much like my grandparents life, and somewhat like my parens life as the way I remember growing up,before we came out here from Arkansas. Not everyone now a days, would enjoy these type movies cause things have changed so much, the way we do things now and yet we say,we have it rough sometimes,[Theres no comparing].I would almost rate it excellent.I would tell friends about it and relatives,I, myself, and my wife did enjoy the movie very much. Dan
Interesting story. Very different. Good look at Arkansas around 1950s
