  • Special Feature Explanation Gives More Depth

I wish I'd first watched the Special Features, especially the Irish actress on this Irish novelist's autobiographical "coming of age" story at the end of the age of 300 hundred years of English occupation as Ireland was wresting back two-thirds of their ancient Celt nation. Gaelic is still among the top 6 languages spoken in the world today. British actress discovery Keely Hawes out of the starting block engaging like Dame Maggie Smith always is. A very authentic Fair Isles period piece.

  • A well presented piece of history

I enjoyed this program as many of my favorite actors are in it. I thought the acting was superior and the story was great. As an American I didn't know much about this part of the UK's history and it was a pleasure to view.

  • A wonderful way to pass a rainy evening.

This is a quiet, slow-paced PBS Masterpiece kind of production. You should like Elizabeth Bowen (author) and John Banville (screenplay) to appreciate it. And it would help if you already knew a little of the history of Ireland just prior to and at the beginning of WW I. The production values are superb, the plot line haunting.
