Was probably $100 when I think PBS broadcast it for fundrsising. At any rate, i love it and at the price (5 times a normal DVD) am happy to own. Need to respect Glen's repertoire, vocal tone and guitar mastery. Lacks most recent tech improvements such as blu-ray. That I wished for but not so. Took a long time to receive from China I think. I hope not a pirated copy!

I looked for this DVD because I enjoyed the PBS broadcast and couldn't afford the contributions necessary to get this bonus. I am glad I pursued it on eBay because the music takes me back to my childhood, when Glen Campbell's variety show played in prime time, and his gentle music and way of looking at things was a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of regular life (okay, I was a teen, then, and you know the issues inherent...). This DVD is filled with song after beautiful song, and Glen's voice is as sweet as before(he may not hit the highest notes, but all the songs work well as arranged). The backing by his own musicians plus the Iowa Symphony Orchestra combine for harmonious delight. I have played it about three times a week since getting it, and that's a rare frequency for me. Fans of Jimmy Webb will be especially delighted with this DVD as Glen focuses on several of his compositions, mostly aptly rendered ( Wichita Lineman, By the Time I Get to Phoenix, and Galveston are especially evocative). Although he does give kudos to Webb, I thought him slightly remiss in not crediting John Hartford, his long-time co-host and composer of Gentle On My Mind. Glen's show always opened (or was it closed?) with it. That and Wichita Lineman are my favs. Yes, do rent or purchase or view this DVD - it's a keeper!Read full review
I wanted to have a copy of this for posterity and because I well remember what a great entertainer he was...even up to and including his last concert tour! This is an outstanding concert from Glen Campbell which originally aired on PBS some years back. It is a more mature Campbell seen on stage in this concert but with all the fire and talent he always possessed and gave his audiences so freely! An added treat is that he is singing with full orchestra backing him in addition to his tried, true and fabulous band members. The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra gives Glen the rich and full sound he so fully deserves and they are truly fantastic! There are no drawbacks to purchasing this other than to be careful from whom you purchase it! Mine was, unfortunately, a Taiwanese manufactured copy, not just a "A Taiwan Official Release" which means it could have been manufactured anywhere for that market but only released there because of the Chinese writing contained on it. That is why I believed my seller when he told me it was only a strip of paper that was removable! That, then, altered the cover and it was NOT as pictured. The copy I was sent included a strip of glued on, non-removable paper with Chinese writing on it. It was made to look like it was part of the original cover, and glued to the left hand side that went around to the rear cover which I was assured, could be removed. It could not be...not without tearing both the cover and back cover photographs and some of the information contained on the rear portion...so be careful. Another unfortunate aspect is that only one of the important Special Features is operational. Neither the "Behind The Scenes" Documentary on the making of the concert or the Biography work and this was more than disappointing to me. If the concert is all you care about just be aware that 5 of the songs originally included in the main concert are only included under Special Features...they do work on my copy but should have been included in the concert itself. I do not know why they chose to market it in that way and I cannot find a copy on which all 22 songs are included but I remember seeing that concert when it first aired (I think it was in 2001) and all songs were included in the main concert. It is patently obvious that they ended the concert prematurely in the cutting and manufacture of this DVD. This fact may or may not be important to you as a buyer. A collector would not be happy with it but, it may no longer be available in its original concert format! The only plus is that the copying of it was done properly and is as clear as you would want and expect it to be. There has been much price gouging afoot since his illness has been revealed and since he is no longer recording, can no longer tour and is now hospitalized...So now, it's up to you!Read full review
No one can deny Glen Campbell`s talent. He is still one of the premier guitarists of our time. His polish sometimes makes you overlook just how trully GOOD he is. As a singer, he is also easily one of the best of his time. His voice still captivates. The lush Jimmy Webb songs seem made for Campbell, and the orchestrations reflect the marriage of two great talents, both showcased at their best. Webb, and Campbell have both been somewhat sucessfull on their own, but combined have produced some of the most memorable music of a generation. Campbell seems to have the knack for bringing out the best of Webb`s music. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show. It`s equal is all too rare these days.
Bought it as a gift, and the recipient has played it several times already. It is even more meaningful given that we are about to lose this wonderful talented gentleman.
