I bought it for the speaker! But the buttons are smooth and easy to initiate. The number readout is fat. But I really like the phone as a phone. I'm a PC guy and have never used my phone to go online. It's an AT&T phone. It has their PTT function and their other network perks. But it works very well with other carriers when unlocked. Even if those other AT&T features won't be available. It has no WIFI. It's not a small phone. But it feels solid and is comfortable to hold. The intercom type speaker is large and works great! These phones can be found very affordable now that Rugby 4 is out. The cases are out of production so the selection is limited. But they can still be found and most are greatly discounted. I got a rubberized white snap-on one. So my phone looks like I have the cell phone of an Imperial Trooper! I hear Star Wars music! heheRead full review

This phone is a decent phone all around however, it fails in one major area. This phone IS NOT rugged and water proof thus it IS NOT military specification. The back battery door barely sits in place when the metal lock ring is turned. I can stick my finger nail under the bottom portion and with very slight force pry the battery door off. I mean VERY slight force. The battery door doesn't even have a rubber seal to keep water out of the most vital area of the phone. Even if the door had a great fit, I don't see how it would still be able to keep water out. Not impressed with the design of this phone... It shouldn't be called the Rugby. It gives the impression that it's a tough phone. Maybe the Samsung Figure Skate would have been a better name.

If you just want a rugged phone this is it. If you need a smart phone this is not it. You can get text and internet on it but is basically just a great cell phone that will last. The volume is great for older people and easy to read without glasses. I had 2 of these for 8 years before the last one finally died. It still worked but was impossible to read from leaving in sun on console of truck. I have dropped these countless times on hard surfaces and they still work fine. Only downside is the outer screen will scratch easily so don't put in pocket with hard objects and being a flip phone a case is awkward. A belt pouch is best. Better get one before they stop making flip phones.

Easy to operate, except that 2 steps are required to turn the external speaker on. Easy to hear and ring tone can be plenty loud enough to hear while in your pocket. Holds a charge and gets great reception. Main screen is sort of strange as you can't really see your wallpaper or picture through the translucent areas where the time and AT&T printing is located. Very good basic flip phone. AT&T stores know a lot about smart phones, but you are kind of on your own trying to figure out some things on this phone. Would be nice if it was a bit thinner. My second one and I replaced the Rugby 2 only for cosmetic reasons. Had to replace the sim card as this takes a smaller sim than the Rugby 3. Purchased a Sadapter kit in case I need to use the Rugby 3 as a backup.

I recently purchased a Samsung Rugby 4 to replace a failing 7 year old Motorola Tundra. The Rugby is easy to use and seems built well enough to withstand rough treatment (I'm a contractor). The battery life is quite good unless you have Bluetooth active. I was able to use the phone normally for 4 to 6 days on a charge. I added a hands free headset and with Bluetooth turned on, the charge is lasting 2 days or less. Other than that, I'm quite satisfied so far.

All I want is a phone, to have people call me, to call others, to TALK to them. This is a rugged phone, very solid feeling. After using it for two weeks, I get good signal strength, the phone's size suits me very well, it just works. It is too early to know how the battery lasts. One negative- navigating the menus seems overly complex, the are multiple steps to complete for simple tasks. Over time I hope to learn some shortcuts. All in all, the phone works for me. I need something small that is basic but reliable, even in my construction environments. So far, so good.

This Rugby 3 feels well built, not cheap of flimsy like other phones on the market. Large font and crystal clear speaker are great for an older person needing a basic phone that will last. The screen size is large enough for those that use the data features, yet, the phone fits discreetly into a pocket or purse. I'm very pleased with this little flip phone!

It took a bit of time to get the hang of this phone, but now that I have supposedly figure it out, it is one of the best cell phones I have had! It sailed through a rain storm with no problems. Ease of use is a tad confusing as the locations for things are not standard in the cell phone world! Battery life is amazing! I have gone many days before I felt it should take a charge, and that is quick. For a used phone, I cannot complain. There was even a users manual available online! I would recommend this to folks who don't need a smartphone but want dependable cell phone. As for Internet on this phone, I cannot give an opinion as my plan does not support that.
I dumped my Motorola Mini Droid (and Verizon) for this Samsung unlocked GSM phone, (and added Consumer Cellular). My main reason is because I am old and don't call that much and never used all the bloatware that comes with Verizon. I can still text and make calls that is all I want to do. Plus now I can carry my phone in a pants pocket and not have to worry about breaking it. This phone is tough, water resistant and the sound is great for and old half deaf guy.

I love my Samsung Rugby 3. It is easy to use and when numbers and letters on the display screen are plenty big enough to read easily. The size of the numbers and letters can be changed to bigger or smaller. The only thing I do NOT like about it is the choice of ringtones offered. I had a Samsung Rugby 2 that had better choices and I had downloaded some different ringtones. When I tried to transfer the ringtones from the Rugby 2 to the Rugby 3 I kept getting a message that the Rugby 3 could not play these ringtones I would have kept using my Rugby 2 except I accidently ran over it when it fell out of my pocket getting into my car. The phone does work but it will not take a charge. when I try to charge the phone..
