Havana Pre-1959
"Our Man in Havana" may be in black and white; however, the story, the characters, and Havana, Cuba as the story's setting are still as colorful as mature viewers still remember the period--before the fiasco that has become the island nation today, that is. The storyline is still engaging; the characters are somewhat broad but likable and convincing, and the images and sounds of Cuba lend the film that touch of the exotic which filmmakers used to seek in tropical paradises. In that respect, the "tropical paradise," the film is dated; therefore, viewers who remember the island from visiting it before 1959 will want to keep this film as a museum piece illustrative of the damage a totalitarian/communist system has perpetrated on Havana and the character of its people. Viewers not interested ... "Our Man in Havana" may be in black and white; however, the story, the characters, and Havana, Cuba as the story's setting are still as colorful as mature viewers still remember the period--before the fiasco that has become the island nation today, that is. Very unique: the last precastro motion picture, filmed entirely in habana. Filming started shortly before castro's take over, and ended a few days after; the role was modified to fit the new situation. It exhibits outstanding views of the surroundings, a vibrant environment showing superbly the way it was.
