    Not great but OK

    I wasn't too excited when I opened up the book because there are no pictures inside the book...not that it's a huge deal but it is indicative of how the book is put together. Each lesson is exactly the same and I don't think there will be a ton of retention. My kiddos (ages 9 and 7) however, were pretty happy with it, so I can't complain too much. (I generally don't pick this sort of workbook for them, so I guess they are OK with the change.) I purchased a different book which I was much happier with and I think will help them to retain a lot more of the same information (English from the Roots Up.) So I suppose it will do, but I wasn't thrilled and I felt it lacked imagination and passion for the subject.

    Good to get kids familliar with roots words

    Not meant to be used as a spelling book. It teaches using a touch-base format with some review sheets in the back of the book. I use the words in each lesson along with the suffixes and prefixes as part of the spelling list for that week. Wouldn't return it now that I have it, but would of liked to have seen more reviews in each lesson as you work through the book, with the extended reviews also at the end to solidify it. Still easier to teach with this book, than having to find all the words and figuring out how to arrange them into lessons on my own.

    Wonderful for vocabulary building

    This book helps students learn how word are constructed from Greek and Latin, so by learning the meaning of the parts of words, they have the tools to figure out the meanings of new words anytime in the future. Invaluable aid to increasing vocabulary. The book is part of a series.

    Word Roots

    The study of this is wonderful because it opens you to being able to decipher the meaning of words without having a clue of what the word would mean. It is a workbook type that can get boring unless you do your own thing to liven it up. Because I have to add to it--it doesn't get the best review because it doesn't give me a clear plan on having fun with it. It provides a basic intro and practice. It also provides a dictionary in the back with a review "test." I have all four books A1 A2 B1 B2 and plan to incorporate them into our curriculum.

    Great Test Prep

    Making students aware of word roots extends their vocabulary five-fold. It is also terrific preparation for the SATs.
