Classic Laurie Lee memoirs of Spain before the Spanish civil war.

This is a book I read years ago at school and wanted a copy to keep. I had also read 'Cider With Rosie', by the same author; his writing is beautiful. As I adore Spain and have been there many times, I wanted to re-read 'As I Walked Out...' as the places Lee visited would mean a lot more than me now.

The book was in fairly good condition.

A beautifully crafted story. Amazing descriptions, I could almost smell the dusty streets and hear the cicadas.

  • Simply wonderful writing style, very evocative and puts you in the moment.

I was supposed to read it for 'O' Level in 1979 but disliked English Literature at that time - or more so, the grammar school lecturing style. It had a profound effect on me however and I vowed to read it at a later time in my life - and here we are. No regrets whatsoever, a sort of 'real' Paulo Coeho 'Pilgrimage' book, with gusto.
