OTA PVR/DVR Set top box tuner

I searched for DVRs for TV channels broadcast over the air OTA. I found this one with fairly good reviews and it was rated as a good value. So I bought one with a remote, HDMI cable. This hooked up easily and has a loop through setting for the antenna eliminating my need for a splitter for my RCA antenna. I read many posts about the PVR/DVR function and ended up using a 100 GB 2.5" PATA hard drive with a USB case through a powered USB hub so that the box doesn't have to supply power to run the external hard drive. So far everything is working fine. It turned on and off, records in full 1080p using about 6 GB per hour of recording time. The layout of the remote is not optimal but I will get used to the button layout eventually. I like the fact that it has a signal strength function ...

  • Top critical review

Does its job but clumsy to use.

I have been using the HomeWorx HW-150PVR for a few weeks now. I purchased this to use in my workshop. I have an older 32" HDTV that does not have ATSC tuner (many of the early models came with NTSC tuner). I was looking for something inexpensive that would allow me watch over-the-air HDTV. This satisfies my requirements but it has many drawbacks. Following is my review: -- Connectivity: 5* - This connects to the antenna and has a variety of output options. HDMI, Component video, Coax Digital Audio, Composite video, RF Out, Stereo audio. It also has a front-side USB port for external hard drive. -- Set Up: 5* - It was easy to connect and set up. I turned it on and started using it within moments. -- Performance: 5* - The ATSC tuner receives all of the local channels without ...

  • Could be better

This is my second one, the first one craped out after 2-3 years of use. Navigating the remote could be made easier, and it has some minor software glitches that could be fixed with a "will written" software upgrade. All-n-all, for me, I wouldn't have bought the second one, if I didn't find the first one much needed for recording hi-def "over the air" programing.

  • Great deal for the price

This is my second time to buy a Mediasonic HW-150PVR. The first one finally conked out after several yrs of regular use. No sense in trying to see about a repair for something that can be replaced for such a small amount of money. I mostly use mine to play videos that I have saved to a USB stick. I take my Mediasonic HW-150PVR with me to a friends house where we watch stuff I recorded at home. The menu for recording is very generic which is a bit annoying, but what do you expect for under $50? The record quality is just fine. The video seems to be just as good as if I was watching it live. The tuner is reasonably good. When I compared the signal strength of over the air channels with what I get on my Vizio TV, the tv has a better signal, but think about the $$. It's still plenty ...

  • Works OK, but...

This unit does work, but is't nearly as good as the 180 model. Tuner is rather weak by comparison and it does not record well on flash drives. I haven't tried it yet on an external hard drive. It does play pre-recorded flash drive media though and gives a decent conversion of digital to analog. I'm satisfied, but for my money I'd stay with the 180. It's a much better unit for nearly the same price.
