The Last Starfighter review Blu-Ray
This is now the third format I’ve bought this movie in. Previously on VHS and DVD, I’ve now got this 25th Anniversary edition on Blu-Ray and it’s a welcome classic edition to my movie collection. Five Stars for this one. 😎

The Last Starfighter film review.
For a 1984 production The Last Starfighter is a fun escape for an hour or two. Looking at the special effects and comparing them to todays standard one can see a marked difference in quality. But bear in mind that in 1984, the CGI effects were ground breaking and a triumph for the period. If you are content to overlook the special effects then this film is a great ride for escapism. You can believe in the concept of an alien race planting video game consoles on Earth to find the best operators who can help them battle an alien war where good must triumph over evil, especially since our Earth is also in the firing line. For those, young or old, who could see themselves blasting off to team up with friendly aliens and jumping into the pilot seat of an extraterrestrial gunship to blast the evil doers, then give this film a whirl.

After having seen this film on TV a few times it was good to get the disc which I still thoroughly enjoyed. While wildly improbable the characters made for a film which is documented as being a precursor of many space war films and it is not hard to see why. After a mundane start it very quickly turns into a great action flick of memorable proportions and a quirky ending leaving it open for a return which sadly has not happened.
