Becoming The Matthew Sweet We Know
This Matthew Sweet album, Earth, is interesting because it comes from before he found fame with the noisy guitar alt rock he perfected in the 90's. Having been released in 1989, it comes from a different place in time. You could say, before Nirvana and grunge ruled the airwaves. The arrangements and instrumentation sound like something from the 80's. The songwriting style and the vocals sound much like he would sound later. Many artists try their hand at different things before finding what would eventually make them well known. This sounds like him trying to find his way there. Not really a bad record. Worth a spin.
