Guero was a bit of a disappointment after listening to Beck's Sea Change DVD-A. It sounded good, but did not contain the (literal) bells and whistles. It did not use the 360-degree space and intricate, high-register layering that amazed me when I listened to Sea Change. I did not need the mandatory video segments for each tune.
Still good, though.
The deluxe "Guero" is a worthwhile acquisition for Beck fans
The inclusion of the DVD with the 5.1 surround sound, and the interactive video remixes, really made this edition stand out when it was released. It was a very forward thinking package for the time.
In essence, the deluxe edition transforms "Guero" from a purely auditory experience into an audiovisual one, making it a distinctive piece in Beck's discography.
There are not that many DVD-A disks out there, so when I saw that Beck produced one, I had to get it. The quality is awesome. Very crisp, localized sounds. High quality.
