  • Solid Docking Station with a Few Quirks...

I had been looking for an alternative to the Blackmagic Design MultiDock, which is rather expensive, and found this to fit the bill. It makes a great SSD reader for Blackmagic Cinema and Production camera drives, as well as functioning as a RAID backup enclosure. The good: The unit is solid metal and has a nice heft to it. It's not so heavy as to be obtrusive, but heavy enough to not move around on the desk, and it feels solid. The USB-C port is lightning quick and supports USB-C to USB-3.0 adapter cables. My experience so far has been that the connections have been solid and it works as advertised. The bad: My only complaint is that, at least on Mac OSX, the dock un-mounts the remaining drive whenever a second drive is inserted or removed. i.e. You need to eject from Max OSX before adding a second drive in slot 2, and must eject both drives even if you're only removing one. This makes hot-swapping of secondary drives a bit of an inconvenience. Overall, I think this is a great alternative to the Blackmagic version. If you only need space for two drives, this is a much more economical option for editing directly from disk.
