Not designed for the human foot.
Whoever designed this thing clearly didn't do so with human beings in mind. The required range of motion from fully off to fully on is more than 60 degrees, and no-one's ankle can do that. So for a device that's supposed to offer you fine control over the amperage of your TIG weld it's really poorly designed. Even at $280, for a couple of potentiometers installed in a badly thought up housing it's pricy. But at the RRP which is around $400 it's laughable. Despite this, if you want to TIG aluminium you need one, and it's all they make. Having ranted about the product, Hampton's service can't be faulted. The spring is a bit tight (strong) and you can also feel the gears on the potentiometer, not comfortable or precise to use
The pedal itself is very heavy duty but it pivots in the middle of the pedal so you have to lift your heel to get full range of motion which in turn lifts you knee up and you hip so you are constantly moving your body which is detrimental to your welding precision. The spring is a bit tight (strong) and you can also feel the gears on the potentiometer, not comfortable or precise to use. I persevered for over 6 months with this pedal and finally purchased a more conventional pedal that pivots at the base of the slope, the change was significant both in comfort and quality of my welds.The pedal itself is very heavy duty but it pivots in the middle of the pedal so you have to lift your heel to get full range of motion which in turn lifts you knee up and you hip so you are constantly moving your body which is detrimental to your welding precision. Horrible to use
The pivot point is in the center of the pedal so it feels so un natural to use as you have to lift your heel as you push your toe down. Construction quality looks good but because of the poor design its simply not worth the money
