Great sounding amplified microphone made by Astatic. I have the M6b Astatic also but I believe this one is better for mobile operation. Its noise cancelling makes it ideal. I like the large paddle button and the mic fits my hand better too.

The good, when it's working right, it does sound good. That's all I got for the good. Astatic dropped the ball somewhere. Cheaply made, with PTT issues. brand new out of the package sounded fine, then after a couple days the PTT button started to sound very scratchy. Those who know what I'm talking about knows that usually indicates a dirty switch. Cleaned the switch again, sounded good for a few days then back to scratchy. It sits on the counter until I get a new switch, and my wife is back to using Mr. dependable the Cobra Mic. Not a good value at least in my experience.

I can tell you, upon opening the package I was very disappointed. I expected a much better quality mic. The casing was a lightweight cheap plastic with the battery cord hanging out of it, you have to take it apart to put the battery in an unsecure location where it just flops around. The PTT was literally a joke. Heck, my sons $20 walkie talkie set has a better PTT than this thing. There are only two positives about it, that's the mesh grill and the fact that the battery gave it a little weight. And all of that was just the aesthetic part of the whole ordeal. With my CB off I plugged it in and powered everything back up, keyed the dumb thing up and it fried my coax. That's about all I have to say about that. I'm done (Mic drop)

This mic sounds good. But honestly, i found it made my radio squeal even with the talk back turned off. I had to lower the mic gain on the radio and barely turn up the power mic to avoid the squealing. At that point it sounded just like my astatic 636. So I guess results may vary.

One word AWESOME! The Astatic Road Devil as described is a VERY loud microphone. Since being installed on my Uniden 980 SSB CB radio, I have received nothing but great compliments on its performance. I had talked to a couple of my CB radio contacts over the past several days with it (Road Devil) and comparing it with an SRA-198 Ranger noise cancelling mic. They've all stated that the road devil was "considerably" or, "definitely" much louder than the SRA-198. I was speaking into both mics exactly the same, upper lip on the lip guard because that is what it is there for since these mics are NOISE CANCELLING you have to "eat the mic" if you don't you will sound very low/faint. I was also speaking at the same volume into them as well. The Road Devil mic volume/gain control I have set right at the letter "L" on the right side of the mic and the radio mic gain control set at 4. Overall for 11 meter AM purposes and being able to be heards, the Road Devil is my choice. For talking single side band I would use my SRA-198 for its outstanding voice clarity and clean audio.Read full review
