I took a chance w/this one because I'm an old school horror fan. I remember reading something about it in Fangoria years & years ago. It sure looks & sounds like it would be cool. For the sake of a very low budget, it relies far too much on nude women swimming & zombies that look like they were spray painted green. I've heard that it has a cult following. I don't belong to that cult. However, if that's what you're into, you'd enjoy the movie. The quality of the picture & sound are surprisingly nice for what the movie is.
It's an o.k. movie, it's entertaining, the acting is pretty bad, the zombies look o.k. but not great. I think this movie only gained popularity due to the level of nudity thrown in, it's like a soft-core porn movie with zombies.

If you are a fan of Eurocine films, you'll love this. Then again, if you like Eurocine, you've probably already seen it. For those of you not in the know, Eurocine was the sort of retarded aunt in the attic of 1970's European film. While other studios made meaningful movies with a message, Eurocine churned out the most sensational titles ever to hit the screen (A Virgin Among the Living Dead, Bloodsucking Nazi Zombies, ETC.) Sadly, the actual content almost never lived up to the title, but there's plenty to work with here in Zombie Lake. My only recommendation is that you make sure you getting the version that has the nude scenes left in; re-edited versions are a complete waste of time. This film is classic Eurocine; a lake full of WWII zombies attacking scantily clad women. When you see the lake, you will ask "What kind of girl would swim in that?" I grew up next to a lake that looked just like it, and everytime a I tried to get a girl to jump in it, she gave me the icy stare that said "You will not be getting any later." My lake wasn't even full of green murderous zombies either. There is some terrible zombie make-up here (looks like when you were a kid and bought those make-up kits that looked really cool on the package but when you did it yourself made you look like you'd been hit in the face with a feces pie.) Stories aboud concerning this film's production or lack thereof. Before you watch this, watch Oasis of the Zombies (AKA Bloodsucking Nazi Zombies), and you will think Zombie Lake is a paramount achievement. That is pretty much the only way I can think of to make this film look good. Worth it for the nudity factor and sheer over-topness that makes Eurocine so enjoyable.Read full review
OK. This is definitely not for the casual horror movie fan. It doesn't have particularly great special effects. The acting is mediocre. The story is very strange. All in, I still enjoyed it!! If you go in expecting a great movie, you will be disappointed. Hard-core horror fans may even be disappointed. Just go in expecting a strange little French horror movie from the early 80's and you may enjoy it too!!

It was a lovely day in the French countryside. Picturesque little town full of odd little characters. Young volleyball players getting naked and swimming in the lake...The Lake of Ghosts! The budget was so small - how small was it? - so small that they did not have enough money for wardrobe! Lovely girls just seem drawn to this nasty, green lake where they MUST swim naked. Do they not have swimsuits in France? Great movie to just laugh about. Maybe do a drinking game anytime you see the pool ladder on the underwater shots. They also seem to use some sort of pool cover to make some parts of the pool look darker. The plot has something to do with Nazis, forbidden love, the death of said Nazis, the zombification of said Nazis and a beautiful (sniff, sniff) reunion between dead father and daughter. It has it all! Recommended for zombie fans who want to see them all - I thought it was quite funny and dumb and I love zombie movies!Read full review
