  • Cold war spy thriller

    Len Deighton is a master of the genre along with Le Carre. These two novels are really evocative of the 1960's and are perfectly crafted. The unnamed agent is a dark, devious and clever character, the Berlin backdrop is a perfect introduction to the setting of Winter his epic historical family saga . They provide a brilliant backdrop to the subsequent novels, Winter, game, set, match, faith, hope and charity which are truly, in my opinion, the best series of novels ever written. Game, set and match was turned into a TV series but apparently Deighton was unhappy with the casting and was never shown, unlike the fantastic TV adaptation of Tinker tailor soldier spy, starring Alec Guiness. Which was far superior to the movie adaptation. Even if you are not a fan, or unfamiliar with the spy ...
