Some Problems on Slim
Bad design. The mini usb power cable outlet forces it's way next to the PS2 power lead, causing stress on the cables. I've actually disconnected this little USB lead because it doesn't seem to make any difference. The dongle is quite wide and also cuts into the path of the PS2 optical out lead, which I use. You can't have both connected!!! So, I've used a craft knife to carve off some of the rubber casing on the optical out lead and now it does fit. Not ideal, but it works. Just another bad design. The other problem is if you chose or force progressive scan mode, diagonal wavy lines of interference appear on the screen image. At first I thought the interference was caused by the USB lead being so close to the PS2 power lead, which is why I disconnected it, and then discovered the dongle ... Bad design. Further experimenting confirmed the diagonal lines appear ONLY in progressive scan mode. The image looks fine at 60hz, my UK TV supports this. It's a close match to the image my component cables gave, can't decide if this dongle is better, BUT I couldn't use component because my TV lost the image when my fridge compressor turned off. This little dongle corrects that. No loss of image now. So, not perfect, but a good price, unbranded but doesn't feel that cheap, the instruction booklet looks cheap though. I will continue to use this. You MUST set the PS2 configuration to YpBpR or whatever it is, not RGB or the dongle won't detect the signal.

I would recommend this to anyone who has a tv that lacks component input. My tv does have component but via VGA and the audio us shared with the side AV so i thought this would be a easier option. This unit provides great visual quality and looks more colourfull than conponent and i would assume the input signal is from the component output. A few peices of info for anyone buying this. 1) You have to set your ps2 video options to Y/pb/pr (component) BEFORE using this adapter with a normal component cable (or RF ĺol) or you will not see video at all as it cannot take rgb as input. 2) i know, the description says this anyway if you read it ( and i did but i was wondering if it was just untested as all PAL uk games cant do it anyway) no it does not support HD resolution input (720p/i or ... Before using it set ps2 to YPbPr instead of RGB in your ps2 menu. THEN turn off and plug in this device. !!! remember to connect the devices usb lead to a power source!!! (you can use the usb port on front of ps2 slims). full screen is obtained from your tv settings but may be streched slightly. The smaller the tv the better it will look. 18" to 22" is ideal i think. Works on new large Panasonic tv
I couldn’t get a clear picture on my 55” large modern Panasonic tv it was previously black and white and flickering. This box has cured that ! Now have a stable full colour picture. Only tiny drawback is it doesn’t display full screen, more like 4:3.
