Brian Wilson's genius comes through. He was surrounded by people who could barely grasp what he heard in his head. The other Beach Boys could not come through with what the Wrecking Crew could do. Clearly a labor of love for John Cusack.

The great Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys deserves a better movie than this. Going back and forth from his younger days to his later days is confusing and Paul Giamatti does an excellent job portraying his evil psychiatrist, Dr. Landy, although it jumps into the middle of things rather than starting at the beginning to better explaln how he go there. This could have been a much better movie with more music and better direction.

I love the Beach Boys and their story, however I found this movie pretty boring. There was alot of dialogue which was hard to understand due to the low tone of speaking. Not sure if it was the DVD or just my speakers but I kept having to raise and lower the volume throughout the movie which was annoying. Movie is just ok. Worth watching I guess but wouldn't over pay. I doubt I will watch again but may at some point since I invested in the purchase and may catch something I missed during the first viewing.

Worth watching. The abuse Brian Wilson lived thru was extreme, and I don't know why this sort of thing slips thru the system so often. His rise to fame was well explained, don't know how he survived life with this issues he was dealt, but knowing this, certainly made me a caring fan of The Beach Boys forever!!

I am a long time fan of the Beach Boys and their music, dating back to the early 1960s when I was still in high school. I knew about their abusive father and his absolute control over their music. It was interesting to see this portrayed in the movie, and how this abusive past affected Brian Wilson in his later years. I was gratified to see that he recovered from his abusive father and his abusive "therapist," in spite of all odds against him. Very entertaining movie.
