After visiting the Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg, TX, and learning that most of those dioramas were based on kits, I was determined to find one that spoke to me but couldn't commit to any of the battleships or aircraft carriers at those scales. Eventually I stumbled upon this visible submarine and was instantly sold. This kit is much better made than my last one from Trumpeter (a MiG 29) with easier to follow assembly and painting instructions. There's even marks on the outside showing exactly where to drill to replace the overhead lighting with actual 3mm LEDs. I've completed the foreword torpedo and communication compartments and only feel intimidated by the 48 crew to paint. My only regret is that with my daughter at 54.5 inches tall I won't be able to claim this model is longer than her by the time it's complete. Read full review

It's big; make sure you have room! I would recommend the 1/72 VII with the CMK modules. The 1/72 is still big, about three feet, and the CMK stuff is absolutely well done. if you can wait, the after-market people will start doing their thing.

It is huge, so be prepared! Loaded with detail and upgrade possibilities and looks like a long and enjoyable build.

It arrived today two weeks earlier than I was expecting, so no complaints there. It’s big, very big, and it’s going to be a long complex build. It is a bit expensive, but it’s going to take so long to build it it’s not too bad, I won’t be buying anything else for a while.
